Sweet Screw Factory joined our Hypercasual catalogue this month as the largest single content drop the category has seen this quarter: 120 handcrafted levels across six themed worlds, with three difficulty modes layered on top. It is also, once you get past the opening world, considerably more demanding than its candy-shop presentation lets on, and that gap between look and substance is the most interesting thing about it.

What You Are Actually Solving

Every level presents a mechanical apparatus built from platforms, pivots, springs and conveyor belts, held together by coloured candy screws in strawberry red, blueberry blue, lime green and lemon yellow. Removing a screw releases whatever it was holding, and the freed section then falls, tilts or slides according to the physics. Your goal is to get candy blocks into the collection jar matching their colour.

The key constraint is that you never touch the blocks. You only decide which screws come out and in what order, which makes this a sequencing problem rather than a dexterity one. Nothing is timed and nothing punishes you for thinking, so every failure traces back to a decision rather than an execution error, and the game is unusually good at making that obvious in the moment it happens.

Reading A Board Before You Touch It

Our testers converged on the same approach after about two worlds, and it is worth knowing before you start rather than after you have burned twenty attempts.

  2. 2Work backwards to the platform that must tilt or drop to deliver those blocks
  3. 3Locate the screw holding that platform, then check which screws are locked in front of it

  5. 5If a board resists this, look for the trampoline or portal, because one of them is almost always the intended route

The Four Complications

Chain reactions

A single screw can bring down half the apparatus. Sometimes that is the intended solution and sometimes it loses the level in under two seconds, and telling the difference in advance is the main skill the game teaches.

Trampolines

Bounce blocks along an arc rather than dropping them. You have to plan for where a block lands, not just where it falls, which breaks the vertical intuition the first world builds.

Portals

Teleport candy instantly to another part of the apparatus. These turn several late levels into routing puzzles where the physical distance between two points stops mattering.

Conveyor belts

Keep blocks moving after they land, adding a timing dimension. A block delivered to the right platform at the wrong moment still ends up in the wrong jar.

Locked screws

Cannot be removed until specific other screws come out first. This is the mechanism that converts the whole game from tapping into planning.

The physics is predictable enough to plan three steps ahead and loose enough that two moving pieces produce something you did not fully picture. That gap is where the satisfaction lives.

The world structure is doing real pacing work. World one teaches removal and gravity and almost nothing else, which is why early impressions of this game tend to be lukewarm. Each subsequent world introduces one new element and then spends fifteen levels combining it with everything already established, so the complexity compounds rather than spiking.

Presentation That Earns Its Place

The candy factory theme is doing more than decoration, which is worth flagging because it is often the opposite in this genre. The four screw colours are instantly distinguishable, the jars are unmistakable at a glance, and no amount of visual noise interferes with parsing a busy apparatus. For a puzzle game where a misread board means a wasted attempt, that clarity is a mechanical asset rather than an aesthetic one.

Getting Started

One input: tap or click a candy screw to remove it. There is no drag, no rotation and no secondary action anywhere in the game, which keeps it fully playable on a phone and means the entire difficulty budget goes into level design.

The Levels That Stopped Us

Two difficulty spikes came up repeatedly in testing, and both are worth knowing about because they are the points where players tend to quit rather than the points where the game gets genuinely hard.

The first is the introduction of locked screws, which happens early enough that players are still treating the game as a tapping exercise. The transition is abrupt: boards that previously accepted any reasonable order suddenly have exactly one valid sequence, and there is no tutorial explaining that the lock icon is the reason your attempts are failing. Several of our testers spent a dozen attempts before working out what had changed.

The second is the first board combining portals with conveyor belts. Individually both mechanics are intuitive. Together they break the mental model most players have built, because a block can now leave the apparatus at one point, arrive somewhere unrelated, and then keep moving after it lands. The solution is usually to stop thinking about the board as a vertical drop and start thinking about it as a route, but the game does not signal that shift at all.

How Long It Actually Lasts

One hundred and twenty levels sounds like a substantial commitment and in practice sits at roughly six to eight hours for a player working through methodically. That is considerably more than the presentation implies and it is spread across the six worlds unevenly, with the final two accounting for a disproportionate share of the difficulty and therefore of the time.

The three difficulty modes extend that further, though not by a full multiple. They adjust the tolerance for imperfect solutions rather than reconfiguring the boards, so a second run through on a harder setting is a tighter version of a route you already know rather than a genuinely fresh puzzle. Worth doing if the game clicked with you, and not the reason to start it.

Our Take

Push past the first world before you judge it. The opening fifteen levels are slow enough that a lot of players will bounce off, and everything interesting about this game sits behind them. What you get after that is a genuinely thoughtful physics puzzler with more content than most paid mobile equivalents, and it is one of the stronger additions to our Hypercasual list this year.
